FLUX
FLUX is the open-weights model that closed the quality gap with Midjourney for most realistic subjects, and it's the standard we recommend whenever a client needs to self-host or fine-tune. The Pro / Ultra tiers (via fal, Replicate, or the official API) are state-of-the-art on photorealism; Schnell and Dev are the fast / open variants you can run on your own GPUs. The flexibility — LoRA fine-tuning, custom deployments, no platform lock-in — is what makes it the engineer's choice.

What it's good for
- 1
Self-hosted image generation where data privacy or cost-per-call rules out closed APIs
- 2
Brand-trained LoRAs for product photography that always lands on-style
- 3
Photorealistic product visualisation, architecture renders, and human portraits
- 4
Production pipelines where you need a hosted API with predictable cost (via fal / Replicate)
- 5
Custom fine-tunes on a client's visual library to keep generations on-brand
How to use it
For one-off generation, use a hosted playground (fal.ai or Replicate) — pick FLUX Pro or Ultra for quality, Schnell for speed. For production, wire the API into your pipeline with a typed client and a queue for higher-volume jobs. For brand consistency, train a LoRA on 20-50 reference images of your subject or style; FLUX handles fine-tuning better than any other open model. Self-host the Dev weights when you have GPU capacity and need data isolation.
